The Challenge: Growing Pains and Administrative Bottlenecks

The Kappa Foundation of Prince George’s County (KFPGC) has been making a tangible difference in their community since the organization started in 2017. ShaCa Gurus has been proud to partner with them since their infancy stage, helping guide their digital presence as they scaled their programs. Like many growing nonprofits, KFPGC eventually hit a point where their passion outpaced their operational infrastructure.

In the early days, KFPGC relied heavily on manual processes to accept financial support. They initially accepted donations via check and PayPal, with many early contributions coming straight from board members to build up operational costs. For in-person events, they were limited to a single card reader, which proved problematic logistically. As the organization grew, they added Zelle as a payment option, but they still lacked a centralized way of tracking these contributions. The treasurer was forced to manage everything in a manual spreadsheet, which took up a significant amount of time. Compounding the issue, early checks could only be accepted by designated board members, and receipts were often delayed until the end of the month or even the end of the year. Furthermore, without a standardized system, it was difficult to ensure donations were earmarked for specific program categories, a critical requirement for nonprofit accounting.

The Solution: A Holistic Digital Ecosystem

To alleviate this administrative burden, ShaCa Gurus developed a professional custom website for KFPGC featuring a seamlessly integrated Donorbox giving platform. We designed this system not to entirely replace their existing preferred methods, but to expand and legitimize their overarching donation ecosystem. In fact, due to processing fees, Zelle remains their number one giving choice, followed by PayPal, CashApp, the website itself, and finally, checks. Supporters sometimes prefer reverting to Zelle or CashApp to avoid the Donorbox fees entirely.

However, integrating Donorbox directly onto their branded website provided an essential layer of digital infrastructure. It offered an immediate, automated way to process giving while instantly issuing receipts to supporters, which proved to be a big lift for the administrative team.

The Transformation: Becoming “Official”

The most profound impact of the new website was not just the software integration; it was the immediate boost in brand perception. When asked to describe the impact of the website on their fundraising in one word, the organization chose “Official”. This modern, professional appearance resonated with people and helped attract donors who might have previously been skeptical or hesitant to give.

Having a legitimate and established digital presence completely transformed their confidence when asking for funds, especially when approaching high-level corporate entities for event sponsorships. This elevated, professional image directly contributed to securing a large donation from a Cadillac GM for their golf classic. Trust grew significantly when users started receiving automated receipts immediately after making a donation, creating a seamless and secure donor experience.

The Results: Data-Driven Impact

Having a professional link and utilizing QR codes made it incredibly easy to capitalize on campaigns, leading to a massive 120% spike in revenue the year after the site launched in 2022. The data highlights a dramatic shift in donor behavior: the average online donation grew from approximately $76 to $190. This was driven by increased online adoption, consistent marketing, and the heightened trust the new platform provided.

The system has proven to be resilient for the nonprofit. By 2025, KFPGC raised nearly 50% more online than they did in 2021.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the digital transformation led by ShaCa Gurus allowed KFPGC to step fully into their potential.
